Indigo Girl
03:06
|
|||
Your words echo as the daylight ends
you speak so sadly at the consequences
of a feeling running round in my brain
all I want is a place out of the rain
So I won't get no sleep tonight
cause inside me is a desperate fight
cause I still don't know who I am
or where you are
or why we're so far apart
so I sit here with my face in my hands
trying quietly to understand
Is this real or a dream?
(are you indigo girl)
Are things the way they seem?
When I find that I'm awake
(are you indigo girl)
What was my mistake?
Your eyes sparkle as the stars come out
the light inside you makes me want to shout
and break a silence that I've learned to not hear
in the quiet of the thunder in my ears
and maybe in a dream tonight
you'll tell me it will be alright
and look out across to the other side
so who you are
and who you're not
at least will have a half a chance
to see this magic circumstance

A Good Vacation
02:29
|
|||
I took a swim in the morning air
dried out on the beach
as the sun was caressing her hair
she said to me
This has been a good vacation
This has been a good vacation, love, for you and me
We tried to slow the passage of time
with some artful delays
but our final day has come
and gone with the haze
This has been a good vacation
This has been a good vacation, love, for you and me
Now we have to go
on back to work
it's a sad situation
for all that it's worth
But it's been a good vacation
Now it's time to pack up the van
and drop off the keys
sit a while in a traffic jame
get ready to freeze
But it's been a good vacation
It's been a good vacation, love, for you and me

Christen Walks
03:44
|
|||
Christen walks the range
discovering all the way
things she cannot change
and things that go away
And as she walks
she always talks to everyone she meets
ain't she neat?
As she lives
she always gives
something of herself
ain't she swell?
Christen walks the path
content to be serene
inspiring with her laugh
accepting our releif
I can see her glee
for every single tree
she never looks back
she just adapts
and only when she spent
to her hearts content
another pair of shoes
did she have the blues
Christen tends a mile
considering everything
enduring with a smile
with eight new songs to sing
and when she sleeps
she always dreams of a big snow lion
ain't she fine?
And when she wakes
she always takes another new road
off she goes

Don't Rush
02:43
|
|||
On that very first night
when I looked in her eyes
she smiled touching her lips
quietly in a hush
She said, don't rush,
do the things you love
I said just being with you
will always be enough
On that very first day
we walked in the sun
she laughed spinning around
always having fun
She said, don't rush,
do the things you love
I said just being with you
will always be enough
On that very first time
I reached out my hand
she blushed, turning to run
cried catch me if you can
She said, don't rush,
do the things you love
I said just being with you
will always be enough
On that very first dawn
gazing at the sea
she gave the very first wave
of her love to me
She said, don't rush,
do the things you love
I said just being with you
will always be enough
On that very last night
almost time to part
she cried, touching her lips
quietly in a hush
She said, don't rush,
do the things you love
I said just being with you
would always be enough
would always be enough
would always be enough

In the end, there is a start
from the dust, out comes a star
even as the seasons change
things stay the same
In a yard, there is a stump
in every spring, there is a pump
even as the seasons run
out comes the sun
by the road there is a bus
overloaded, carrying us
to everywhere the seasons go
a fair wind will blow
Walk, don't you run
don't you stare at the sun
don't you stand in the rain
don't you do that again
In a bush there is a bird
in a hush, a man gives his word
even as the seasons trade
a promise is made
on a farm there is a goose
in every rope there is a noose
even as the seasons cry
we don't know why
in a sky there is a cloud
in every stree there is a crowd
even as the seasons blow
you never know
Walk, don't you run
don't you stare at the sun
don't you stand in the rain
don't you do that again

Martens Farm
02:41
|
|||
Out on Martens Farm
they got a big red barn
out on Martens Farm
in the sun
On Martens farm
they've got a cat with a vision
and a great green pond for fishin
Down by a covered bridge
and next to a dirty old ditch
you'll appreciate where you are
on Martens farm
On Martens farm
they've got a rusty old truck
and a Volkswagen van that's stuck
Out on Martens farm
in the sun
On Martens farm
they got a hunderd head
and a little park bench stained red
out on Martens farm
in the sun

Sunangel
03:17
|
|||
Come a hummingbird outside of my window,
to look in the light, to drink in the color
In other words to be high on the sunshine
to lift in the breeze, to wash in the water
Sunangel, coming free
come angel, come to me
and tell me of a way of a fragrance
a western wind rises
and a moon breaks to pieces
in the waves of the radiant water
that runs through the forest
and calls to the silence
Sunangel, come in free
come angel, come to me
In the shadow of the leafy green
and at the root of a willow tree
birds nest riding in your hair
flyin’ breathless in the air
and waiting for the change of the season
the tilt of the axis is the source of the reason
when day and night are in equal duration
a typical rainstorm sends a typical rations
Sunangel, come in free
come angel, come to me
and show me of the height of your doorway
an eastern moon rises
and delivers a dusting
of the magic of a dreamers touch
that lies down softly
on a pillow of clearness
Sunangel, come in free
some angel… come to me
In the shadow of the leafy green
and at the root of a willow tree
birds nest riding in your hair
flyin’ breathless in the air
comes a person in a mutual dream,
like a frightened child, raisin interesting questions
when I was high on the sunshine day
and mow an appealing pattern in the grass
Sunangel, come to me
come angel, come to me

Salt and Sting
04:31
|
|||
Come Let's get on up
Let's get on up
sunrise soon
and bacon in the pan
there's rivers to cross
and cattle to brand
last night I searched the sky
for all the things love can bring
salt and sting
Let's burn it up
let's burn it up
saddles do squeak
and ropes do burn
and it don't take a minute
for the weather to turn
tonight I searched the ground
for all the things love can bring
salt and sting
He drank all day
played cards all night
he lost his pay to an ace high straight
now he lies in a grave by the lazy eight
tonight I search my soul
for all the things a grave can bring
salt and sting
don't give it up
never give it up
wait 'till you see the milk river bows
when the slopes of the rockies
are buried in snow
last night I searched the sky
for all the things love can bring
salt and sting
today we sang a hymn
about all the things
love can bring
salt and sting

It's Hard to Know
03:52
|
|||
Which way to go
it's hard to know
just what to do
to see me through
this cold and lonely road
I have to laugh
there's no looking back
It does me good
I never could believe my world could change
Sneaking up behind me
there to remind me now
just what to do
Speak to me kindly
trust in me blindly
now it's up to you
Sneaking up behind me
there to remind me now
just what to do
Speak to me kindly
trust in me blindly
now I know it's you
Which way to go?
It's hard to know

The Robot
04:12
|
|||
Upon the stairway of despair
complete with broken love affairs
and promises that never came
but faded with a touch of shame
a pretty girl with golden hair
an innocence so sadly rare
strove to keep her head above
a way of life devoid of love
feeling pinned against lifes wall
she chanced upon a robot tall
and said please come and share with me
whatever fate has deemed to be
I'm through with love
I'm done with chances
spirit crushed my past romances
just be a friend in word and deed
it's all that I shall ever need
There's not to much for me to learn
remarked the robot in return
emotions do not form a part
of my cold solid steel heart
what ever maker
fashioned me
did not permit my circuitry
responsiveness to love or pain
your thoughts of me
would be in vain
No matter, spoke the maid
no more do I wish passion to explore
be someone I can come home to
when my exhausting day is through
count yourself a well worn shoe
a friend that I can slip into
protection from a stone cold floor
for this I ask and nothing more
Agreement made he took her hand
and lived the life that she had planned
always willing, not demanding
aiding her with understanding
made her smile with humorous whit
as his restrictions would permit
and by and bit
she came to feel that he was more
than iron and steel
I love you, Robot
she said at last
replied when seven months had passed
your strength and quiet dignity
have brought a wondrous change in me
no more do I feel all alone
and pray you must be flesh and bone
deep set emotions you must feel
within that outer coat of steel
If I were able I would say
I'm sorry I was made this way
but my design and programmation
does not provide for that creation
of feelings normal men may feel
that were not born of iron and steel
I told you once and once before
you have no right expecting more
Go then, cried she
I will not live beside a fiend
who cannot give
though I be battered by misuse
misguided trust
and strong abuse
at least the men I chose
were real
and had the power to love and feel
of all the lovers I recall
you're the cruelest one of all
The Robot indestructible
continues free
and at will
emotionless apparently
but bearing closer scrutiny
oh, one can see a small tear streak
down that cold metallic cheek
as he reflects on a non-life
that lovely one would be his wife
